Operator Training for Evacuation Chair and Equipment

Who should attend?

A practical learning session delivered by a certified trainer, our training for operators of evacuation equipment is designed to provide your staff with a safe and comprehensive understanding of how to use an evacuation chair with a passenger load. 

This course will give participants an understanding of the Five Factors and Rules of Evacuation, and a chance to experience the chair as both operator and passenger. On completion, each operator will receive a certificate that is valid for one year. Our instructors will also make practical recommendations, including a practice schedule, and outline your obligations as set out in the relevant Government legislation.

Due to the practical nature of the course, our Operator Training Course must be conducted onsite.

Evacuation equipment is only as good as its operator

Remember, Government legislation (Regulatory Reform Order (RRO), BS9999 & PUWER and Equality Act 2010) ensures operators are as prepared as possible to remove the chance of surprise or concern interfering with the safe evacuation of those who require assisted evacuation from the building.

• The Regulatory Reform Order requires you to provide a means of escape for all and trained operators for any equipment. 
• PUWER requires organisations to provide training courses and trained operators for use with equipment that the employer provides for use in any premises.
• The BS9999 Standard for Medical Safety Device requires trained operatives when the equipment is being used.
• The Equality Act 2010 ensures passenger and operator safety when operating the right equipment for the specific needs of the disability, and the provision of technical training for the safety of the operator and passenger when using the equipment.

Operator training specific to the equipment you’re using

It’s important for your staff to be familiar with the type of chair your business operates. In the event of an emergency, you don’t want to be reaching for a manual or calling your equipment provider for a refresher. 

The same can be said for those who may require it. Staff with special mobility needs will benefit from first-hand experience of the chair, as would anybody whose safety may one day be dependent on specialised equipment. Emergency evacuation is by definition a stressful experience for both the operator and the person being moved, so the greater your familiarity with the equipment, the better. 

Replicating the experience and practicing with the equipment you’re operating builds confidence in both the chair’s design and the proficiency of the operators tasked with using it.

Designated operators have a duty of care to stay fit for purpose and must carry out hands-on practice in between the certified courses at a minimum recurrence of 6 monthly intervals.
